Where to take old appliances in Ontario

211 public sites across Ontario list appliances on the operator's own website. Checked October 2026.

Stoves, washers and dryers usually go free or cheap into the scrap metal pile. Fridges, freezers and air conditioners need the refrigerant removed first, so many sites charge extra for them. These public sites list appliances.

Before you go

  • Call or check the site's page first. Item rules, limits and fees change, and some sites take certain items only on set days.
  • Bring proof of address. Many municipal sites are for residents only.
  • Keep the item separate in your load so it can go straight to the right pile.
